Workshop Description:
Capture your beloved pet in luminous stained glass in this special intermediate-level course. Over six weeks, you’ll transform a photo of your furry (or feathered!) friend into a one-of-a-kind glass portrait using the copper foil method. This class is ideal for students with prior stained glass experience — you'll need to be comfortable with basic cutting, foiling, and soldering techniques. (If you’re brand new, check out our Beginner Stained Glass class at the end of April!)
Course Outline:
-
Week 1: Design & Pattern Making – Learn how to translate your pet’s features into a glass-friendly design. Bring a photo to work from!
-
Week 2: Glass Selection & Layout – Choose your color palette, cut paper patterns, and prepare for cutting.
-
Week 3: Cutting & Grinding – Begin cutting glass pieces and shaping them with the grinder to fit your layout precisely.
-
Week 4: Foiling – Wrap each piece with copper foil, prepping your project for soldering.
-
Week 5: Soldering – Bring it all together with solder lines and structural support.
-
Week 6: Finishing Touches – Clean, patina (if desired), and polish your finished portrait.
Whether you're memorializing a pet or making a unique gift, you'll leave with a heartfelt and highly personalized piece of art.
