If you want to take your wheel throwing to the next level, this 6 week intermediate course taught by seasoned potter Andrew Sellery is for you. Across the six weeks, hone your skills and learn new ones. Instruction on collaring and bellowing cylinders, creating lids/jars, throwing off the hump, plates, altered shapes, and using larger amounts of clay can be expected. Student requests for demonstrations are welcome.
Please note the techniques in this class lean on a strong foundation of basic centering and pulling learned in the beginner series. Students who have taken the beginner series but continue to struggle with centering and pulling are encouraged to repeat that series before moving on to the intermediate course.

About the Instructor
Andrew Sellery
Instructor
Andrew Sellery has been making pottery for over 40 years. Throughout his career, he has taught at the John Woolman Quaker Semester School, worked as an Art Department Technician at Sierra College, and led workshops from his personal studio and at ASIF Studios. His work is primarily functional, traditionally Japanese-influenced, and focused on limited series of cups, bowls, and vases. Each piece invites the viewer to discover a connection through both touch and sight. Andrew encourages people to pick up a piece that catches their eye and experience how it feels in their hands, believing this tactile connection is an essential part of appreciating the work and connecting with its maker. His practice embraces a quiet palette of earth tones and organic elegance. Through each series, he explores the interplay of form and glaze, continually curious about the transformations that emerge from the meeting of earth, water, air, and fire. For Andrew, working with clay is a lifelong journey toward self-understanding, deepening his appreciation for patience, dedication, and personal growth. Each piece offers his community an opportunity to share in that journey. He is grateful for the support of those who welcome his work into their lives and hopes his craft brings a little beauty to the everyday.
Policies
By signing up for a class, you agree to these policies:
You may cancel a class for a full refund or class credit 14 days before the start date of the (first) class.
Our classes and workshops are designed for participants 16 years and older, unless otherwise stated.
The first class is foundational to the entire series; if you are a beginner and are unable to attend the first class, please join us for another session when you can attend them in sequence. For the other classes, if you are unable to attend or miss a week, you can make up the hours during unguided open studio time.
All scheduled classes and workshops start and end on time. Please be prompt in your arrival and departure, as we often have other classes starting after yours. Arriving 15 minutes late to a class counts as a no-show, and no make up class will be offered. Instructors are subject to change.
We reserve the right to cancel any class due to low enrollment or unforeseen conflicts. If a class is cancelled, we will do our best to reschedule the session. If you are unable to attend the rescheduled class, you will be issued a refund.
Please note that we may take photos during the workshop to use on social media. If you do not wish to be photographed, please let the teacher know when you arrive.
