Workshop Description:
The jeweler’s saw is one of the most essential tools in metalsmithing—and once you know how to use it, everything opens up.
In this class, you’ll learn how to confidently handle a jeweler’s saw from the ground up: how to properly load and tension a blade, choose the right blade size, and cut with control and precision. We’ll cover straight cuts, curves, and interior cuts (piercing), along with all the small adjustments that make a big difference. Filing, finishing and riveting (cold connection. No soldering needed!) will also be covered in this course. You will be creating your own bale to hold a chain on your pendant.
If you’ve taken one of our other metals classes, this is the skill that ties everything together. It’s the difference between working around limitations and being able to actually execute your ideas.
This is a hands-on, practice-driven class where you’ll build muscle memory and leave with real confidence using the saw. Along with your very own Sterling Silver Pendant Necklace.

About the Instructor
Norah Payne
Jeweler
My metalsmith journey started in 2006 with an intro to metal smithing course at Buffalo State College in Buffalo New York. Feeling rather drawn to this art form I received a Bachelors degree in metal smithing with a focus in jewelry. Almost a decade passed while I aimlessly traveled around the country without touching a torch or having a creative outlet. Throughout these years I longed to take this craft up again, never quite gathering the confidence or stability to do so… until finally I did! I began posting my work on social media and Norah Payne Metals was born. As I was finally settling into my new business my home, studio & community were taken by the Creek Fire in 2020. A single phone call upon evacuating landed me in Grass Valley where a kind friend opened her home to my family (with 3 animals in tow) during this hardship. After picking up the pieces I decided to stay in beautiful Nevada County. I now reside in Rough & Ready along Deer Creek where I work from my home studio. I work primarily in sterling silver and my style focuses heavily on the contrast of texture, patina and bold stones.
