Materials:
A kit including 200’ of rope, fabric scraps for inserting into your makes, & two 100/16 Schmetz Jeans sewing machine needles are included in the cost of the workshop. You just need to bring your sewing machine and thread (100% polyester all-purpose thread highly recommended). If you have fabrics you’d like to incorporate into your projects, bring them too! Medium and light weight woven fabrics made from natural fibers, cut into 1/2-1” bias strips are best. Additional materials will be on hand for purchase should you want more of anything!
Workshop Description:
Learn the joy of turning simple rope and scraps of fabric into beautiful functional forms. We will start by coiling rope into coasters and trivets, then graduate to bowl and basket shapes! You will learn how to shape the form, insert fabric if desired, and create a variety of useful vessels and forms. It’s much easier than it seems, highly additive, and they make impressive gifts too! New to sewing? Not a problem! As long as you know how to use your machine, you’re good to go.
Since you’re providing your own sewing machine, please make sure it is in working order, and that it can sew a zigzag stitch. We will not have back up machines on hand, so if your machine does not work, or cannot sew a zigzag stitch, you will not be able to make the projects with us in class. Also, if your machine cannot use the provided Schmetz sewing machine needles, please bring at least two 100/16 Jeans needles to fit your machine.

About the Instructor
Christine Haynes
Sewing Author, Teacher, and Pattern Designer
Christine is a San Francisco-based sewing author, teacher, and pattern designer who has been sewing since the age of 10. After graduating from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she moved to Los Angeles to sell ready-to-wear. When Random House approached Christine to write her first book, she left ready-to-wear, and turned her focus to teaching others the joy of making clothing for themselves, through her patterns, books, and workshops. While in Los Angeles, in addition to creating her own work, she was also the shop manager at Sew LA. Following more than a decade in Los Angeles, Christine relocated to New York, NY, where she became the shop manager of Purl Soho. After managing Purl Soho for a few years, Christine returned to patternmaking and teaching, which she does from her studio in San Francisco, CA. By signing up for a class, you agree to these policies:
You may cancel a class for a full refund or class credit 14 days before the start date of the class.
All scheduled classes and workshops start and end on time. Please be prompt in your arrival and departure, as we often have other classes starting after yours. Arriving 15 minutes late to a class counts as a no-show, and no make up class will be offered. Instructors are subject to change.
We reserve the right to cancel any class due to low enrollment or unforeseen conflicts. If a class is cancelled, we will do our best to reschedule the session. If you are unable to attend the rescheduled class, you will be issued a refund.
Please note that we may take photos during the workshop to use on social media. If you do wish to be photographed, please let the teacher know when you arrive.

There is a metered parking lot very close to the Tinnery, please ensure you have coins to pay the meter, as it does not accept cards.
