French Stitch Cracker Box Book
Workshop Description:
This fun and versatile binding makes use of recycled materials and has covers that are integrated into the French Stitch binding. The covers are made from recycled cracker or cereal boxes, and found ephemera can be worked into the pages as well. The box material can be turned inside out to create the covers allowing them to be decorated with your favorite surface design techniques. The French Stitch is a link stitch that creates a beautiful patterned effect on the spine that remains exposed and is non-adhesive. This is a wonderfully flexible binding that makes use of materials in the recycling bin and can be used as a journal or sketchbook, and is also a great artist's book structure.
Materials (students should bring):
cereal and/or cracker box - not corrugated (bring a few options - instructor will have some on hand, too)
Optional: paper ephemera to mix in with blank book pages i.e. graph paper, ledger paper, lined paper, printed book pages, musical scores, etc.

Optional: surface design mark making supplies i.e. pens, pencils, etc.
