About the Instructor

Wendi Spiers & Carlos Oropeza of Mean Pony
Ceramicists & Storytellers in Clay
Nestled in the heart of California’s Shenandoah Valley wine country, Mean Pony Pottery is a husband-and-wife ceramic studio dedicated to creating one-of-a-kind pottery and sculpture. Surrounded by rolling vineyards and our own miniature farm of donkeys, alpacas, sheep, chickens, and beloved companion animals, we find endless inspiration in the creatures and landscapes that shape our daily lives. With over 30 years of experience in the art world, we are passionate about blending tradition with innovation, honoring the raw beauty of clay while exploring new forms and textures. Each piece is carefully hand-built, wheel-thrown, or sculpted, embracing the alchemy of fire and glaze to create surfaces rich in depth and character. Our work is showcased across the Bay Area and beyond, inviting collectors, art lovers, and everyday users to experience the warmth and individuality of handmade ceramics. At Mean Pony Pottery, we believe in storytelling through clay, celebrating the connection between art, nature, and the human touch.
